Description:

  • Camshaft is too slow to open engine cylinder valves

Possible Symptoms:

  • Engine will not start

Possible Causes:

  • Low oil pressure due to restriction in an oil passage or a bad oil pump

  • A faulty camshaft position sensor

  • A faulty camshaft position actuator solenoid

  • Camshaft adjustment valve 1 fault

  • A faulty VCT (variable cam timing) phaser

  • Binding in the VCT unit

  • Damaged or corroded connector terminal, wiring, or harness

  • Bad PCM or ECM (rare)

Related Parts:

  • Camshaft Position Sensor: The camshaft position sensor monitors the position of the camshaft to regulate fuel injection. Problems lead to stalling or car failing to start.

Possible Solutions:

  • If connections and wiring appear to be in good condition, test the wiring and connectors using a digital multi meter. If a fault in the voltage is found, that section of wiring or connection will be replaced

  • If not, it may be necessary to replace the fuel cooler pump itself

  • Replacing the timing chain and guides

  • Check the system following manufacturers pinpoint tests
