P0074

2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0074 indicates that there is an issue with the circuit that controls the ambient air temperature sensor. The sensor is responsible for monitoring the ambient air temperature outside of the vehicle. An intermittent or erratic reading from the sensor can cause issues with the vehicle's performance.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated

  • Erratic or intermittent readings from the ambient air temperature sensor

  • Poor performance of the air conditioning system

  • Reduced fuel economy

Possible Causes:

  • Corroded or damaged wiring and connections

  • Failed ambient air temperature sensor

  • Faulty engine control module (ECM)

  • Short circuit in the circuit

Related Parts:

  • Ambient Air Temperature Sensor: This is usually located in the air inlet. It measures the outside air temperature. Problems here lead to engine stalling, lack of power and a noisy engine

Possible Solutions:

  • Check and repair any damaged or corroded wiring and connections

  • Replace the ambient air temperature sensor if it is faulty

  • Replace the engine control module (ECM) if necessary

  • Check for and repair any short circuits in the circuit
