Description:

  • An excessively low voltage detected from the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor

Possible Symptoms:

  • Vehicle may not shift into the highest gear at freeway speed

  • The engine may show signs of overheating.

  • The torque converter clutch may not engage or disengage causing the vehicle not to move

  • The transmission could overheat

Possible Causes:

  • Low engine coolant level

  • Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor

  • Faulty engine coolant thermostat

  • Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness is open or shorted

  • Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor circuit poor electrical connection Rusty and/or corroded Engine Coolant

  • Faulty or corroded Engine Coolant Temperature wiring or connections

Related Parts:

  • Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor: The coolant temperature sensor measures the temperature of the engine coolant. Problems lead to engine overheating

Possible Solutions:

  • Check the ECT sensor connector with the key on and the engine off. There needs to be a steady 5 volt reference voltage and a very good ground
