Engine hesitation, backfire, erratic acceleration
The engine may show signs of overheating.
The torque converter clutch may not engage or disengage causing the vehicle not to move
The transmission could overheat
Low engine coolant level
Faulty Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor
Faulty engine coolant thermostat
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor harness is open or shorted
Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor circuit poor electrical connection
Rusty and/or corroded Engine Coolant
Faulty or corroded Engine Coolant Temperature wiring or connections
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor: The coolant temperature sensor measures the temperature of the engine coolant. Problems lead to engine overheating
Check the ECT sensor connector with the key on and the engine off. There needs to be a steady 5 volt reference voltage and a very good ground
