P0712

2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0712 indicates that there is a low input from the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor circuit. This can cause issues with the transmission shifting, as well as decreased fuel economy.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Illuminated check engine light

  • Harsh shifting or delayed shifting

  • Reduced fuel economy

  • Transmission slipping or overheating

Possible Causes:

  • Faulty transmission fluid temperature sensor

  • Corroded or damaged wiring or connections

  • Failed engine control module (ECM)

  • Broken or damaged TFT sensor circuit

Related Parts:

  • Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor: Gear fluid line delivers gear fluid/oil between the various gear parts that need lubrication. The Gear fluid temperature sensor monitors the fluid temperature in the line. Problems lead to difficulty in shifting gears

Possible Solutions:

  • Replace the transmission fluid temperature sensor

  • Check and repair any corroded or damaged wiring or connections

  • Replace the engine control module (ECM) if necessary

  • Repair or replace the damaged TFT sensor circuit
