P0871

2017-10-10

Description:

  • The fault code P0871 indicates that there is an issue with the circuit range or performance of the transmission fluid pressure (TFP) sensor/switch C. This may lead to transmission shifting issues or even transmission failure.

Possible Symptoms:

  • Harsh or delayed shifting

  • Transmission slipping

  • Illuminated check engine light

  • Transmission overheating

  • Reduced fuel efficiency

Possible Causes:

  • Faulty TFP sensor/switch C

  • Corroded or damaged TFP sensor/switch C circuit wiring or connectors

  • Defective transmission control module (TCM)

  • Malfunctioning transmission fluid pump

Related Parts:

  • Transmission Fluid Pressure Sensor: Gear fluid line delivers gear fluid/oil between the various gear parts that need lubrication. The Gear fluid line pressure Sensor monitors the fluid pressure in the line. Problems lead to difficulty in shifting gears

Possible Solutions:

  • Replace the TFP sensor/switch C

  • Inspect and repair any damaged or corroded TFP sensor/switch C circuit wiring or connectors

  • Replace the TCM if necessary

  • Replace the transmission fluid pump if diagnosed as faulty
